Katya Levental
Artist Designer and Decorative Painter


Katya Levental, artist, designer and decorative painter founded The Painted Image in 2000 which is responsible for all aspects of design for interiors; from creation to implementation. Katya Levental's reputation enabled The Painted Image to quickly establish demand for private and commercial commissions at an international level. Her company has created murals and frescos for many substantial private residences in New York, Baltimore, Washington DC, Palm Beach, and Moscow and was contracted to create innovative decoration for a Christmas window display at Lord and Taylor, Manhattan.

Katya Levental was educated at the Moscow State Surikov Art Institute, Russia from 1984-1990 where she graduated with honors and received and MFA in painting and theater design. She was also nominated for the Gold Medal of the Academy of Art. Over the years Katya has worked as Art Director on several theatrical and television production in Russia. Much of this work was completed while still studying at the Academy. Since graduating she has lived in the United States. Katya first showed her work at the Alla Rogers Gallery in Georgetown, Washington DC, followed by Henri Gallery, Dupont Circle, Washington DC, and later at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA where she was Associate Member of Torpedo Artists Association. In the years 1997-1999 she taught Art History at the Hebrew University Baltimore, MD. Also in 1997 Katya worked as Assistant Director for the Christmas Celebration Performance designing sets and costumes at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Katya has worked extensively as a muralist for commercial spaces including Valley Craftsman in Baltimore where commissions included the US Mint and IBM Headquarters, and in collaboration with the Alexander Popovich Studio creating frescos for clients in New York and Plam Beach Florida.
